POSITION SUMMARY: The Electrician 2 will install, repair and maintain all electrical wiring, equipment, instrumentation, fixtures and systems to required standards in the production areas, office areas, facility grounds, lab, warehouse and utility areas. The Electrician 2 will be responsive to line calls, provide support for mechanical, electrical, and PLC preventative and failure based maintenance as required by the plant's needs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

60% Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical and PLC failures. Services and repairs low voltage apparatus and control equipment such as switches, relays, variable frequency drives, computerized process control systems and field control devices. Complete preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.

20% Assemble, install, calibrate, test, and maintain electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical & electronic equipment using test equipment, hand tools and power tools. Inspect electrical and mechanical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and compliance with appropriate codes. Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as multimeters, and meggers to ensure safe operation.

10% Recommends changes, modifications or upgrades to equipment to improve machine reliability and performance. Reads electrical circuit drawings and documents. Documents completed work, modifications to equipment, findings and parts information as required.

10% Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • 2 year Technical degree in industrial electrical discipline and 2 years of work experience in an electrical role, OR 4 years of work experience in an industrial electrical role.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience with PLC and other control systems.

  • Experience bending and installing electrical conduit up to 1".

  • Ability to technically advise and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.

  • Experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team to accomplish goals.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.

  • Ability to respond to calls for emergency work during off duty hours.

  • Ability to execute assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to write, speak and follow written and verbal instructions in English; Ability to lift 55 lbs.

  • Ability to climb platform steps, ladders, and stairs.

  • Ability to perform elevated work.

  • Ability to work in all environments.

  • Ability to work in inclement conditions.

  • Ability to bend and crawl in limited space.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a technical discipline or Apprenticeship program completion.

  • 2 years of work experience in a mechanical role.

  • Food plant manufacturing experience.

  • Understanding of requirements to maintain food safety and employee safety.

  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

  • Experience with the National Electric Code and NFPA-70E requirements.

  • Advanced computer skills.

  • Ability to develop/design, read and interpret drawings, and equipment specifications.

  • Proficient troubleshooting skills for computer networks, automation, controls, programming, process systems, PLC's, HMI's, AC variable frequency drives, AC motors, Servo motors, relay controls, power distribution systems (480VAC and below), and 24VDC controls.

  • Experience with mechanical equipment including pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor systems, packaging systems, air compressors, pumps and process piping.

  • Experience with HVAC equipment including chillers, cooling towers, and boilers.

  • Working knowledge of SAP, MS Office and Windows.
