Cargill's North America protein business produces fresh, frozen and cooked beef, turkey, pork, chicken and egg protein offerings, sauces, soups, case ready products, pet treats and by-products for our retail, foodservice and food ingredient customers. Located in America's agricultural heartland, Cargill Protein's Wichita, Kansas, headquarters provides a central location from which domestic and international customers are served.

The Quality Assurance Tech I will be responsible for regulatory compliance (FSIS/CFIA), customer specifications/quality issues, food safety and quality programs within the plant facility. This position requires good and quick decision making skills, the ability to multi-task while staying orderly with tasks, and for the qualified applicant to be a self-motivator. The qualified applicant must be able to successfully handle conflict with all levels of production including at the management level.

Principal Accountabilities:

10% Monitor FSIS/CFIA regulatory activities and plant compliance with regulatory standards. Act as liaison between USDA/CFIA and plant operations.

15% Acts as customer interface with plant to review product performance, respond to questions and complaints, and work with operations to ensure customer expectations are met.

50% Plan, coordinate and direct all quality, sanitation, regulatory and food safety programs within the establishment to insure compliance with company, governmental and customer requirements and expectations.

15% Employee management - selection, training development, performance management, staff efficiencies.

10% Reviews and verifies results and communications with Corporate Technical Services. Interface with Corporate Technical Services Directors and other TS Managers within the BU. Collaborate with TS Managers across the platform.


Required Qualifications:

•Strong understanding of USDA/CFIA requirements.

•Comprehensive knowledge of plant operations

•Basic knowledge of safe food handling practices

•Basic knowledge of employee safety practices

•Basic math skills (read and compare weights and measurements, add, subtract, multiply, divide, coordinate lot #'s with orders, etc.)

•Able to deal with conflict (able to enforce procedures and specifications)

Able to work second shift - 2:55pm to 11:25pm.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Beef processing Experience

•QA or Supervisory Experience

•Test and hold or Lab experience

•Bi-lingual (English, Spanish)

•Good communication (able to read, write and speak English)
