Position Purpose & Summary

This role can be based in Geneva, Minneapolis or Singapore.

The Risk Management Group (RMG) plays a key role in enabling Cargill's strategic direction to strengthen its trading and risk management capabilities. Upon completing a strategic review and external benchmarking, RMG's aspiration is to be a leader in market risk management by successfully delivering on the following commitments:

The Enterprise Risk Manager has a leadership role in implementing the exciting new strategic direction of RMG within the respective enterprise. This role is on the RMG Leadership Team and should aspire to serve on the Enterprise LT/ELT by meaningfully contributing to the Enterprise's success. Enterprise Risk Managers, and their teams, are embedded into the Enterprise and Groups to effectively partner with relevant teams (Commercial/Trading/Finance/Other) but must maintain independence to perform RMG's fiduciary role. In order to deliver on the vision and ultimately best in class risk expertise, the Enterprise Risk Manager role requires relationship building ability, strong influencing skills, business acumen, effective communication, leadership presence, a people first mindset to design and lead high performing and engaged teams, a system thinking approach, and laser focused execution, while role modeling Cargill's values and leadership expectations.

This Enterprise Risk Manager role will lead the ETM Enterprise and focus on Corporate Strategic Sourcing and Procurement.

Leadership over well-established Ocean Transportation, Metals Supply Chain, CRM risk teams.

Risk Manager for Global Corporate Strategic Sourcing and Procurement/IES on Cargill's energy spend.

Principal Accountabilities


Lead the ETM Enterprise RMG Teams to ensure global commodity and related risks are properly identified, quantified, reported, and monitored. Increase transparency and improve identification to preserve Cargill value and ensure there are no surprises and doing so through rigorous risk management process, applying experience and learnings, and robust quantification. Establish metrics and provide actionable risk and trading performance insights to create value for stakeholders within the Enterprise. Use an integrated and system approach for value preservation and risk reward to enhance Enterprise and Cargill profitability.

Build strong relationships with the ETM Enterprise leader and support the Metals and OT Risk Management to develop relevant risk dashboards/metrics, share risk insights, drive continuous improvement and performance optimization, support trading coaching and performance assessment. Support strategic initiatives to leverage the risk reward mindset best in class risk expertise (portfolio, asset footprint, MADJV, etc). Specifically, drive and enhance the partnership with A&F, Commodity Compliance/Law, FP&A, IT and Analytics, Strategy and Development, and internal Audit. Bring RMG perspective and risk thought leadership into functional discussions and Enterprise prioritization.

Provide risk leadership on CRC and FRC governed areas, requests, and on Risk Profile reviews and support the OT and Metals Risk Managers in their preparation of those initiatives. Implement tiered decision making and empowerment into the organization. Act as a liaison for the Enterprise on CRC related matters. Exercise delegated authority to approve limit extensions, re-allocations, and long term agreements. Promote prudent risk taking, optimal sizing, and support dynamic management of exposures to maximize position potential. Assure the appropriate rigor and assessment are applied to any risk failure/breach, or near miss, and that appropriate corrective measure are taken and learnings are shared. Strengthen and foster a healthy risk culture.

Design and lead a high performing, diverse, and engaged team that models Cargill's leadership expectations, guiding principles, values and behaviors. Effectively manage employee (and team) performance and retention through education, feedback and coaching, development, succession planning, and sponsorship of career opportunities.


Be the Risk Manager and Lead for Cargill's Energy spend that is handled through Strategic Sourcing and Procurement and the NA Internal Energy Services (IES) team who manage the energy spend for US plants.

Actively engage the RMG Leadership team, implement the strategic recommendations within your Enterprise, and promote the RMG vision.

Promote continuous improvement within RMG and proactively share best practices developed within your team. Embrace new ideas and concepts developed by the broader RMG team and pilot or implement when needed.

Learn from the outside and share with Cargill and RMG on industry practices, risk discipline advancement, and benchmarking. Role model and foster an environment of constructive challenge within the RMG team. Play to win for Cargill first and the Enterprise/RMG second.


Work with RMG Leadership on cross enterprise risk projects and in leading global RMG. Collaborate with the central team to bring consistency, process, best practices, and standardization to ETM and Energy. Share analytics and insights with the Cargill portfolio and central team analysts. Play a role in identifying and attracting top talent in Cargill and externally.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Analytical mindset
  • Ability to manage a global team (potentially virtual)
  • A commercial mindset with commodity trading and options experience and/or exposure
  • Strong ability to apply judgement when dealing with ambiguity and variable market factors
  • Strong communications skills (verbal/written/presence/candor) and ability to manage difficult and stressful situations
  • Independent thinker, willingness to defend ideas/methodology in the face of resistance
  • Able to take initiative, work autonomously, and handle multiple demands. This role requires the ability to work with a very wide range of business activities with global diversity.
  • Ability to lead and influence through potentially challenging situations
  • Strong partner focus/collaborative, desire to improve processes and find solutions to meet Business and function needs
  • 8 years risk management, trading, or finance experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with FX, credit,
  • Strong statistical knowledge
