This position must be able to work weekends and holidays, and must be able to work in close quarters with coworkers. This position allows for job expansion throughout the BU and onto other BU's. Can move up through the Microbiology Lab and move into a FSQR Technologist position in a plant.
30% Prepare media to proper specifications to achieve optimal results in all microbiological testing - All media is prepared from dehydrated powders. Must be able to prepare media to proper specs and sterilize media using autoclaves. This includes measuring out proper diluents for each specific media using the auto-dispensing machine. All preparation must be done using aseptic techniques. Must be aware of all media on hand and keep stocks of media in supply for future use.
20% Transfer of cultures - Preform transfers of pathogen cultures during enrichment stages using aseptic techniques.
15% Sub-sample finished products and raw materials - Finished good need composited into one sample using aseptic technique.
15% Proper cleaning and operation of autoclaves for best efficiency - This position is in charge of running the autoclaves and keeping them clean and free of debris. Must be able to manage time well to ensure all cycles needing run can be completed in one day.
10% Cover for coworkers' time off including weekends
5% Prepare media for certain tests not run on a routine basis - Must be in contact with microbiologists and supervisor to determine when extra media is needed, those not used on a routine basis. Must communicate with lab to determine if and when these special medias are needed.
5% Perform any other lab duties as assigned - includes training new team members

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Scientific Field (such Chemistry, Biology or other scientific field)
Ability to manage multiple tasks at any one time
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Previous experience with Steam Autoclaves
Previous work in a laboratory setting
Previous experience using SAP software
Previous experience with pathogen testing
Previous experience with the Neogen Genetrak testing system
