POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting Infant Nutrition Business Partners to ensure compliant supply, support cost avoidance where possible, and improve the ability of growers/suppliers to provide compliant vegetable raw materials to the Gerber business. Primary duties include: 1) Ensure availability and compliance of planned raw material quantities fully aligned to Procurement strategies and the Business needs (NPDI, quality improvement, savings); 2) Communicate progress and opportunities to all relevant stakeholders on a timely basis and 3) Support implementation of procurement sourcing strategy in close collaboration with Strategic Buyers.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1) RIGHT SOURCING
a) Ensure Compliant Supply
i) Support Purchasing Managers in their effort to consistently deliver low contaminant vegetable raw materials to Gerber factories that consistently meet quality and sensorial expectations.
ii) Build Gerber grower/supplier capacity to consistently meet Nestlé IN contaminant requirements.
iii) Support creation of vegetable ingredient specifications that incorporate Nestlé strict standards for infant foods.
iv) Coordinate soil sampling program and maintain the soil library in the electronic spray history database.
v) Collaborate with Purchasing Managers to identify and support opportunities for minimizing cost impacts due to Nestlé IN contaminant compliance standards.
vi) Develop and maintain Gerber's agricultural research projects and translate the results into practical solutions for Gerber growers.


2) OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
a) Communication
i) Develop effective communication strategies for growers and suppliers to effectively translate research results into compliant high quality vegetable raw materials.
ii) Communicate with North American Business Partners to effectively educate suppliers and growers on expectations of Nestlé IN contaminant standards.
iii) Communicate regularly with North American Agricultural Development Manager on status of current and emerging contaminant issues.
iv) Seek opportunities to provide Marketing, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs with positive information about Gerber's sustainability efforts in environmental, social and economic areas.
v) Collaborate with factory and QA on development of data collection for benchmarking contaminant levels and monitoring program success.

 
3) LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
a) Support raw material program for the US Market
i) Gain expertise in current and future agricultural contaminants through field experience and interactions with academia and industry.
ii) Use expertise to support Innovation & Renovation efforts by Procurement, Operations, Technical Applications Group and the Nestlé Development Center.
iii) Communicate raw material progress and challenges effectively throughout the organization through the development of effective reports and presentation as needed.
iv) Seek opportunities to gain knowledge in all areas of contaminants with expectation of ultimately becoming the NA Infant Nutrition expert in plant nutrition and its impacts on nitrates, nitrates and other plant nutrition based contaminants.
v) Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
Advanced Degree in agronomy, soil science, horticulture or other technical area.


EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year purchasing, food safety, supply chain and/or technical/manufacturing experience desired. Direct Procurement or Food Safety experience preferred.
Prefer demonstrated food safety/Business Partner capability. Candidate must be a demonstrated quick study with proven ability to manage change, to work with and through people at all levels, and possess strong decision making skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary to be successful in this position.

 
SKILLS:
Must have base knowledge of conventional vegetable production systems with ability to understand sustainable and organic vegetable production as well. Prefer prior experience with food ingredients in manufacturing, quality, food science or purchasing.
