Position Purpose

The GEOSNA Refinery Process Optimization Engineer (POE) position is located at an operating refinery and is focused on results, projects, processes and procedures related to cost and yield optimization of all unit operations within the refinery operation. The POE is responsible for accurate measurement, identification and implementation of improvements with regards to yields and efficiencies. The POE is also responsible for key Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) implementation activities with regards to High Hazard Processes (HHP) as well as refined oils best practices at their refinery.

Principal Accountabilities

15% Yield and efficiency measurement and reporting process improvement activities utilizing both leading and lagging key performance results.

25% Developing a Statistically Supported Decision Making (SSDM) (or other) structured approach to increase plant yield and efficiencies based on keen benefit and effort prioritization.

25% Development and implementation of small capital projects to increase plant yield and efficiencies (typically

15% Lead site HHP PSRM implementation & maintenance activities not limited to PSI, PRA, MOC, incident investigation, training, contractor safety, audit, permits, PSSR, operating procedures, asset integrity and emergency planning and response.

10% Implementation and development support of WW RO MTL best practices

10% Perform misc job-related duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical, mechanical, or food engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a food production environment (edible oil refinery or comparable).
  • Capital project execution
  • Good understanding of vegetable oil refining.
  • Good listener, able to present complicated matter in a clear way both written and verbally, engaging in discussion, basic negotiation skills.
  • Team play, respectful, reach out for assistance and offer assistance, self-motivated
  • Manage the coordination and implementation of process improvements. Standardize and manage manufacturing process requirements and process maps
  • Team player, respectful and able to work independently or reach out for assistance when necessary
  • Ability to develop and manage good working relationships with internal departments (production, FSQR, procurement, accounting), contractors, and suppliers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven performance and the ability to apply policies and procedures in the areas of safety, environmental, health and food safety
  • Demonstrated ability to coach others for high performance and high engagement; motivates, inspires, and engages others to excel and work towards the vision
  • Demonstrated behavior of strong integrity and moral principles; consistently does what one says one will do
  • Demonstrated behaviors consistent with the Cargill Leadership Model
  • Routine physical activity including standing, walking, typing, climbing and lifting
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required(typically less than 15% of time)


  • Graduate Degree
  • Six Sigma certification is highly desired
  • Good understanding of OSIsoft PI, basic understanding of AutoCAD, MS Project.
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Project)
  • Perform engineering process qualification or evaluation which includes generating and executing test plans, data collection and analysis, reporting and communication status and results to stakeholders
  • Experience in a chemical, food, packaging or pharmaceutical facility is strongly preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Good understanding of Minitab
