POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for establishing and implementing the SH&E-related elements of Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) for Nestlé USA, Nestlé Canada, and Nestlé Professional North America for select regions and sites.  Role will be key Liaison between the Business, SH&E group, NCE Team, and Site personnel.  Role will have primary responsibility for assisting facilities with development and execution of the SH&E Pillar Strategy Implementation Plan and all other SH&E aspects of NCE.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management Responsibilities: 

  • With the facility leaders, the implementation of all major NCE process and systems of the SH&E Pillar and other NCE Modules as appropriate.
  • Monitor the SH&E strategy, plans and objectives in the sites in accordance with the established ISO and OHSAS Management Systems and Nestlé Continuous Excellence [(NCE) TPM, Six Sigma, and Lean].
  • Work very closely with the Market and/or Zone SH&E Pillar Leader to ensure proper alignment and application of NCE Methodologies in the sites.
  • Maintain competencies, motivation and commitment to achieve the SH&E and NCE teams mission and objectives.
  • Coach and develop the SH&E knowledge and capability with all employees (beyond the SH&E function)
  • Encourage continuous improvement, networking and sharing information.
  • Demonstrate and promote the company's values with impact on the SH&E, and NCE teams.

Functional Responsibilities:

The position:

  • Partners with SH&E Operational Leaders to execute aligned strategies for the SH&E Management System and Pillar execution at the sites.
  • Serves as an SH&E (Safety, Health and Environmental) Regional Pillar Lead for NCE/NIM - including training, facility/operations SH&E staff support/coaching/feedback/assessing development and implementation of SH&E Pillar and associated SH&E components of NCE foundational elements.
  • Evaluates current progress on SH&E within all aspects of NCE, driving the implementation of Best Practices related to systems, processes methods, organization, staffing, and employee capability levels. 
  • Develops and maintains current, certain SH&E management system policies, systems and tools (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) in coordination with Market and/or Zone SH&E Pillar lead and Operational SH&E Leaders.

The role leads teams on these key initiatives and any others as appropriate.  It provides regulatory and system interptretaions and application direction as needed.  Also develops SH&E specific programs, which may include training, to establish clear procedures on SH&E measures and precautions in these areas.  Position will also act as internal functional expert in key technical areas as identified. 

In addition to overall input to corporate SH&E initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities include supporting factories via hands on counsel, supervision, assessment and implementation of :

  • Audit/Assessment of programs and support - including 3rd party,  ISO, OHSAS, Regulatory, Functional Gate
  • NIMS
  • Environmental sustainability and technical expertise support

Specific responsibilities relating at the Market/Business level: 

  • Coordinate with other NCE Team Members, SH&E colleagues, business, and factory/site personnel to assist in the successful implementation of NCE / SH&E methodologies.
  • Monitor and Report factory implementation status to business and SH&E Director, and Pillar Leaders
  • Deploy training and communicate TPM / NCE strategies to facility personnel and others as needed
  • Oversee and report all of the SH&E and NCE Audit/Assessment plans and progress for the factories.
  • Maintain a good understanding of all facilities operations critical to the business that includes:
    • Where failure can have an unacceptable impact on the business, safety, environment or compliance with the law
    • Identification of improvement opportunities contributing to the overall business and SH&E specific objectives

Specific responsibilities relating at the Factory/Sites level: 

  • Guide the factories/sites in the preparation of their SH&E Pillar implementation plan.  Report and close gaps in the implementation plan including methodology gaps.  Ensure existing strategies are retained as standard SH&E Pillar activities become sufficiently embedded to ensure continuing safety and business performance.
  • Participate in local audits/assessments concerning NCE, TPM and the SH&E function.  Ensure action plans are in place and are being implemented as per the plan.  Be proactive in investigating any issues relating to non-compliance and non-conformance with key performance indicators.
  • Organize training, coaching, and development programs for factory SH&E Pillar representatives.

Travel required - average = 50-65%


REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

 

  • B.S. in SH&E management and/or a scientific discipline, such as engineering, chemistry, bio/life sciences
  • Specific documented SH&E and NCE related training and certifications (may include: TPM, LEAN, 6 sigma, HAZWOPER, OSHA 40 Hr., NEBOSH, CSP, CIH, NAEM, etc.)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and interpretive ability of state and federal environmental and safety regulations
  • Minimum 5 years line/factory and/or division/corporate SH&E involvement.

SKILLS:

  • Strong communications, strategic, training, and motivational management skills.
  • Good technical understanding of SH&E issues and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions as it relates to building in prevention. 
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory and technical issues in lay terms
  • Analytical skills in problem solving including DMAIC
  • Ability to perform under pressure and in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to act in several roles depending upon the situation -facilitator, leader, executor, etc.
  • Strong change management, team building abilities
  • Ability to achieve results through dotted line situations
  • Strong PC proficiency in Windows-based applications and SH&E functional applications
