Cargill Protein is a leader at delivering primary processed and value added proteins into the Foodservice, Retail and Manufacturing market channels. It operates several food processing facilities located in the US and Canada. Our customers in Foodservice are comprised of large national restaurant chain operators, contract feeding companies and both national and regional foodservice distributors. Our Retail customers are comprised of primarily large national grocery retailers and warehouse clubs. Our Manufacturing customers are comprised of large branded manufacturers of retail consumer packaged goods. The customers from these channels are attracted to working with Cargill because of our demonstrated leadership in delivering innovative products, integrity, operational excellence, food safety and risk management.

Position Purpose

The Category Advisor role is responsible for utilizing category management principles to drive overall category sales and profitability with key retail partners. Interacts with customers as an expert in the field of category development, providing compelling presentations and analytics in support of category sales growth. Drives best practices involving space management, assortment analysis, feature ad optimization and profitability. Leverages available tools, technology, and syndicated data to improve the efficiency and consumer experience. Support strategic efforts to influence shelf, feature and assortment decisions.

Principal Accountabilities
50% Responsible for developing and maintaining base plan-o-grams using JDA Space Planning. Develop assortment and distribution recommendations that maximize category performance. Manage execution of plan-o-gram building using external resources.

40% Synthesize insights and information into fact-based recommendations. Deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly category performance reports and key insights to the customer's buying team. Ongoing independent analysis of the competitive marketplace, and ability to analyze and interpret syndicated data. Work directly with customers to develop business strategies for increasing category volume, margin and market share. Work with sales team to evaluate current and potential opportunities.

10% Provide ad-hoc analysis to internal business units and customers

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • 5 years of experience in sales, marketing, finance, or business management
  • 2 years professional experience working with data management, analysis, and reports
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must possess expert level skill set using database, spreadsheet and presentation software (Microsoft Access, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time to work with and present data to customers

Preferred:
  • Experience building plan-o-grams
  • Strong syndicated and sales data software experience
  • Experience in the perishable foods and/or meat category
