Position Purpose

The Sourcing Specialist II will support overall CTL sourcing and analytics strategy on projects as assigned. Establish and maintain supplier performance measures, databases, contracts etc. and assist in developing CTL's abilities to provide market research & data intelligence, create and maintain modeling tools & systems, interpret and analyze data, and provide best practice sharing. This position will also lead development and execute processes to capture, organize and analyze complex data for the North American truck mode. This will include developing, implementing, and maintaining analytical best practices, tools, and templates and will perform financial analyses to form functional recommendations. This position will independently conduct research, develop market perspectives and recommend courses of action. This role will interact with multiple business groups and require cross-BG and functional collaboration. Managing cross-BG truck sourcing projects will be a critical responsibility.

Principal Accountabilities

45%- Sourcing: Possess strong knowledge of the eSourcing tools and apply expertise while leading RFI's, RFP's and performing optimizations. Perform process bid analysis and post-negotiation award analysis. Manage truckload events that utilize other negotiation tools. Support/enable the CTL regional strategy with respect to vendor management (e.g. selection, contract negotiations, relationship management). Analyze and recommend solutions to support network optimization strategy, including consolidation projects, and single BG projects. Collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate and monitor utilization of strategic and core supplier contracts. Lead the process development and delivery for supplier performance management, supporting the strong carrier relations. Drive development of best practices for truckload sourcing projects.

20%- Spend Management: Create, develop, implement, and maintain financial models, best practices, tools, templates, and processes. This includes performance scorecards, metrics reporting, and value capture/measurement tracking tools. Assist with category spend analysis by creating, developing and maintaining supplier scorecard measures, value capture/measurement tracking tools, truckload database, contract management process, etc.

15%- Market Intelligence: Independently gather, synthesize, and analyze data from structured and unstructured data sources such as analyst reports, publications, Cargill data warehouses, etc.
Research and create complex benchmarking and analytical reports for freight sourcing. Apply broad understanding of transportation practices to develop market perspectives and freight studies.

20%- Misc: Perform miscellaneous projects and job related duties as assigned and/or required.

  • BA/BS preferably in business, transportation, supply chain or equivalent business experience
  • 5 years' experience in the areas of transportation, logistics, operations, SCM, finance, trading or other commercially-oriented roles
  • Demonstrated skills in suite of Microsoft Office applications, most importantly Excel and Access
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in ambiguous situations
  • Financial acumen, including financial modeling skills; strong analytical and strategic skills; experience with scorecards/metrics and database knowledge/skills

  • BA/BS preferably in business, transportation, supply chain or equivalent business experience
  • 7 years' experience in the areas of transportation, logistics, operations, SCM, preferably in the truck mode
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Project Management methodology, tools and processes in daily activities
  • Experience aggregating transportation market data and producing market intelligence to drive action
  • Experience with trucking company or managing truck spend as a shipper
