Position Purpose

Cargill is a global leader in large-scale fermentation. Cargill's Biotechnology Research and Development Group (BioRD) is a global R&D team that enables Cargill to fully benefit from advances in fermentation, enzyme and microbial biotechnology. As a member of BioRD you will apply innovative technology to develop new products and improve processes for the food, feed, and industrial segments of Cargill.

This position will be called upon to support the biotechnology team within the Minneapolis BioRD team, as they proactively draw on basic analytical knowledge to generate positive economic outcomes. They will utilize bioanalytical knowledge to support and grow within the Biotechnology team as they stay current with literature and analytical advancements.

This position will contribute to the development of analytical tools and methods. With limited direction, the position will set-up and execute HPLC and GC systems by calibrating and process using Empower Software; independently maintain documentation of work flows and results, prepare analytical standards and samples via routine wet chemistry; maintain sample waste streams.

Principal Accountabilities

45% Preparation of analytical samples, standards, and properly disposes of waste according to EHS guidelines in a high safety focused environment.

35% Execute HPLC and GC sample loading, processing and chromatographic trouble shooting prior to effectively communicating results to diverse scientific teams.

15% First line troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.

5% Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members and customers to prioritize tasks and execute plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Associated Degree with two years of analytical lab experience or bachelor degree in chemistry or biology related field
  • 1 years of experience in GC and HPLC systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemistry background strongly recommended.
  • Strong conviction for integrity of their data
  • Basic technical knowledge in analytical chemistry and sterile techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Well organized and detail oriented
