Position Purpose

This role is part of the center of expertise for freight audit and payment and freight management activities in Wichita, KS. The main focus of this role will be managing the processes and systems to ensure timely and accurate payment to our carriers, accurate and timely data mgmt. in transportation systems. This will be done while providing the highest level of service to client BUs. This candidate will have a deep and thorough understanding of accounting, internal controls, segregation of duties and of the fap/fm space for all transportation systems - as well as a basic understanding of transportation operations (Including ALL modes of transportation - truck, rail, ocean, barge, etc.). This candidate will employ a variety of metrics to ensure processes are efficient, effective, and properly controlled in accordance with various regulations and company policies. Identification and implementation of process improvement opportunities is a must. This person will assist BU accounting personnel in researching and explaining variances in freight cost accruals and will provide ad hoc reporting Collaboration with the Transportation and Finance Job Families will be important to implement and maintain best practices for freight carrier payments and related data.

Principal Accountabilities

COE for FAP/FM activity - expert knowledge of processes and systems related to FAP & FM - provide market and process expertise (including regulatory and compliance).

Collaborate with Global I/T, other CTL managers, CBS Sites and BU to resolve complex issues. Including testing new functionality, system improvements, and break/fix items.

Evaluate risk, ensure adequate controls and segregation of duties, monitor/audit to ensure continual process control, provide periodic metrics related to departmental performance, motivate team to ensure responsibilities are completed timely and accurately

Carrier and Client relationship management

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • 2 years' work experience in a related field
  • Proven knowledge of payment controls processes, internal controls, and segregation of duties
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to influence other with interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail as well as ability to see and understand big picture
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge processes and implement change, to deliver value


  • Knowledge of transportation and freight payables processes
  • SAP or JDE & AS400 experience
  • Proven ability to behave in accordance with Cargill values and ethics
  • Ability to manage conflict constructively
