Our Cargill Salt business produces, packages and ships salt for a wide range of market segments:

  • Agricultural

  • Food

  • Water conditioning

  • Industrial

  • Chemical and packaged ice control

We operate more than 20 manufacturing, processing and warehousing locations that make salt from three major production methods:

  • Mechanical evaporation
    at facilities in the U.S. in California, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, New York and Ohio

  • Solar evaporation
    and harvesting from ponds in California, Oklahoma, Utah, Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles, and Los Olivitos, Venezuela

  • Rock salt mining
    from underground mines in Louisiana, New York and Ohio

Cargill Salt services a variety of customers ranging from home improvement, hardware, grocery, and convenience store retailers, to food makers/processors, water conditioning dealers, and foodservice and general wholesale distribution. We make more than 1,000 different salt products and package sizes. In addition, we market national and regional brands, including Diamond Crystal® branded household consumer food and water softener salt products, Champions Choice® branded agricultural products for animal feeding, as well as Cargill® and Alberger® branded specialty salt products for food manufacturing customers.

The Solar Plant Manager will provide operational leadership for the Solar facility at our Newark location. They will be responsible for providing Customer Solutions; achieving EHS and operational excellence; leading and coaching the operations team; ensuring product quality; P&L Accountability; capital expenditures, manufacturing costs and operating efficiencies. They will also serve as a contact within the community for public relations, labor issues, tax issues, and community affairs.

Principal Accountabilities

  • 30% Leadership: coaching, performance management, engagement. Continue efforts to build high performing team; engage all employees; implementation of BU strategy; people development, champion recognition; collaborate effectively with experience teams and disciplines. Role Model and ensure compliance to laws, regulations and company policies.
  • 25% Operational Excellence: operations management including product quality; maintenance reliability & energy management; innovation, efficiencies & best practices.
  • 15% EHS Leadership: ensure compliance and commitment to policies, procedures, and regulations. Provide direction, coaching, support to BBS & Wellness. Environmentally sound adherence to all agency requirements.
  • 10% Customer Solutions & Innovation: Focus on continuous improvement and process management and cost efficiencies to support positive customer experiences.
  • 10% Project management, capital planning, P & L: business compliance; develop & meet budgets, develop capital spending requests & project management; aggressively & proactively manage operating expenses. Oversee and direct key projects and initiatives. Ensure capital projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • 5% Serve as the Cargill representative within the community
  • 5% Develop and implement a business plan that allows Newark to achieve targeted earnings, EHS, personnel, and sustainability objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4 year college degree with 5 or more years Plant Manager experience of a process production facility OR in lieu of degree a minimum of 7 years operations related experience in a plant environment, including 5 of those years in a supervisory role

  • Travel on a limited basis (5% per year)

  • Bending, Stooping, Walking, Lifting (50 pounds), Finger Dexterity, Grasping, Pushing, Pulling

  • Using a computer and keyboard

  • Facility safety process leadership

  • Capital project management

  • Project management utilizing PPM/PDP process

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching, motivating and developing high performing individuals and teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse workforce.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (listening, written, verbal, presentation).

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Relentless determination and courage to make things happen; strong execution skills; results-oriented

  • Demonstrated expertise in process management and project management

  • Demonstrated Change Leadership; resiliency

  • Original, independent thinker with solid analytical skills. Able to manage competing priorities.
