Position Purpose

This position is responsible for managing food safety activities related to fats and oils at a Dressings, Sauces & Oils site. This role plans, coordinates, and directs all food safety program to ensure customer, supplier and regulatory expectations are achieved.

Principal Accountabilities

- Plan, coordinate and direct all food safety programs and activities within the location to ensure compliance with company, FSSC, regulatory, customer requirements and expectations.

- Verify completeness and accuracy of packaging production and analytical documents, internal and external COA's to ensure packaged products meet customer and internal quality requirements.

- Perform internal HACCP, PRP and other various Food Safety and Customer Audits. Plan, coordinate and provide Food Safety Training for operations personnel and supervisory staff.

- Drive alignment and consistency between current site and BU Food Safety practices, corporate requirements, and FSSC standards.

- Identify opportunities to implement best practices and implement and champion said practices.

- Other duties as assigned.



  • 4 year degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or applied science

  • Minimum 2 years in-plant Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory experience (or equivalent education/ MS or PhD)

  • Proven experience with implementing and managing ISO 22000 and Food Safey Management Systems

  • Basic to moderate food safety knowledge with specific emphasis on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs), food additives, and sanitation

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to behave in accordance with Cargill's values and ethics

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods

  • Able to navigate safely in an industrial environment (e.g., ladders, stairs, stationary and moving industrial equipment)

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work 8 hour shift or additional hours as needed

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have occasional exposure to weather conditions. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, and steel toed boots. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.


  • Knowledge of FDA and USDA food laws and regulations

  • Applies auditing and quality compliance skills to identify and manage risks/compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Experience applying Continuous Improvement concepts

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people with varying levels of educations

  • Able to adapt to changing priorities
