Responsible for supporting Infant Nutrition Business Partners to ensure sufficient organic raw material supply, support cost avoidances where possible, and improve the ability of suppliers to provide desired quantity and quality of organic raw materials to the Infant Nutrition business. Primary duties include: 1) Ensure availability and compliance of planned raw material quantities fully aligned to Procurement strategies and the Business needs (NPDI, quality improvement, savings); 2) Communicate progress and opportunities to all relevant stakeholders on a timely basis and 3) Support implementation of procurement sourcing strategy in close collaboration with Strategic Buyers.
1) RIGHT SOURCING
a) Ensure Compliant Supply
i) Support Purchasing Managers in their effort to deliver organic fruit raw materials to Gerber factories that consistently meet quality and sensorial expectations as well.
ii) Build Gerber fruit grower/supplier capacity to consistently meet Gerber contaminant requirements.
iii) Support creation of fruit ingredient specifications that incorporate Nestlé strict standards for infant foods.
iv) Coordinate gathering of spray histories and maintain the electronic spray history database.
v) Support Gerber's raw material efforts to address processing contaminants and other contaminants of concern.
vi) Collaborate with Purchasing Managers to identify and support opportunities for minimizing cost impacts due to Nestlé Infant Nutrition contaminant standards.
vii) Develop and maintain Gerber's fruit research projects and translate the results into practical solutions for Gerber growers.
2) OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
i) Develop effective communication strategies for growers and suppliers to effectively translate research results into compliant high quality organic raw materials.
ii) Communicate with North American Business Partners regarding progress of organic transition by Gerber growers and adoption of sustainable pest management strategies by Gerber's conventional fruit growers.
iii) Assist Business Partners with assessing potential new growing regions for sourcing contaminant compliant organic raw materials.
iv) Communicate regularly with Agricultural Development Manager on status of transitional and organic crop production.
v) Seek opportunities to provide Marketing, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs with positive information about Gerber's sustainability and Creating Shared Values efforts.
vi) Collaborate with factory and QA on collection of test data for benchmarking contaminant levels in organic raw materials and monitoring program success.
3) LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
a) Support organic raw material program for the US Market
i) Gain expertise in organic fruit production including current and future contaminants associated with fruit production through field experience and interactions with academia and industry.
ii) Use expertise to support Innovation & Renovation efforts by Procurement, Operations, Technical Applications Group and the Nestlé Development Center.
iii) Communicate raw material progress and challenges effectively throughout the organization through the development of effective reports and presentation as needed.
iv) Seek opportunities to gain knowledge in all areas of contaminants with expectation of ultimately becoming the NA Infant Nutrition expert in organic crop production.
v) Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
Advanced Degree in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology or other technical area.
Minimum of one year of purchasing, food safety, supply chain and/or technical/manufacturing experience desired. Direct Procurement or Food Safety experience preferred.
Prefer demonstrated understanding of both conventional and organic fruit production. Candidate must be a demonstrated quick study with proven ability to manage change, to work with and through people at all levels and strong decision making. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Must have base knowledge of organic and sustainable tree fruit production systems with ability to understand conventional fruit production as well. Prefer prior experience with food ingredients in manufacturing, quality, food science or purchasing.
